There are three ways of spelling my name that I know of: Gavin, Gaven or Gavan.
Gavin is the most common spelling and for this reason many people spell my name this way. This spelling is incorrect however because my name is spelt with an a.
My grandmother was never taught to write properly and she spelt my name Gawen, Gavn or Gvefn. She did not grow up in an English speaking country.
Usually I don't mind if people spell my name a little bit wrong because my spelling is not the most common and I understand that people can't be expected to expect this. I do wonder if the Gavins with an i out there are as understanding as I am or whether they get mad if their name is spelt wrong.
Someone once told me that the name is derived from Gawain who was a knight of the round table. This make me proud because I sometimes think that just maybe a little bit of his knightly demeanour has been passed on to me because of the connection in our names. I think I am happy that my name is spelt with an a even though it can add to the confusion of everyday life.
One reason I am happy about how my name is spelt is because of what i found when once I did a Google search of my name spelt Gavin with an i. Would you believe that in Germany, if my name was spelt with an i then it would mean that I was a type of sneaker? Yes, it is a type of sneaker made by Tommy Hilfiger. I didn't expect this at all. I have never met Tommy Hilfiger but I think that if we met in life we would probably not have much of a connection and our personalities are probably not similar at all.
Do you like the look of this shoe? I don't think that this shoe would suit me very much at all.
